We're Now Licensed to Spray — Here's What That Means for Your Paddocks

We’re pleased to share some news that we think will make a real difference for horse owners and landowners across Hampshire: Hampshire Paddock Management is now PA1/PA2 certified, meaning we’re fully licensed to apply pesticides and herbicides using a boom sprayer.

It’s something we’ve been working towards, and we’re excited to be able to offer a more complete paddock care service as a result.

What is PA1/PA2 certification?

The PA1 and PA2 certificates are the UK’s nationally recognised qualifications for the safe and responsible use of pesticides. PA1 covers the safe handling and application of pesticides generally, while PA2 is specific to boom sprayer operation — the equipment used for treating larger areas of grassland efficiently and evenly. Holding both means you can trust that any spraying we carry out is done properly, legally, and with care for your land, your horses, and the surrounding environment.

What can we now treat?

With our boom sprayer and full licensing in place, we can now tackle a wide range of paddock problems:

Weed control — Ragwort, docks, nettles and other problem species are not just a nuisance; some are a genuine risk to horses. We can treat infestations across paddocks of all sizes, helping you stay on top of the legal requirement to control injurious weeds under the Weeds Act.

Moss and broad-leaf treatment — Moss-heavy or broad-leaf-dominated paddocks often indicate underlying issues with drainage or compaction, but treatment is a great first step in reclaiming productive grazing. We can apply targeted treatments to restore the balance.

Fertiliser and nutrient application — Good grass starts with good soil. We can apply fertiliser through the boom sprayer to help your paddocks recover after heavy use or a tough winter, encouraging healthy, even regrowth.

Why does this matter?

Paddock spraying is one of those jobs that’s easy to put off — and easy to get wrong if it’s not done by someone who knows what they’re doing. Using an unlicensed operator isn’t just risky for your land; it’s a legal issue too. By bringing this service in-house, we can now offer a fully joined-up approach to paddock management, from harrowing and topping through to weed control and fertilisation, all under one roof.

If your paddocks are looking a little worse for wear heading into spring, now is a great time to get ahead of the problem. Get in touch and we’ll come out for a look.
